The Wound Healing Institute is an outpatient wound care program
dedicated solely to healing patients with difficult wounds.
These wounds may be from diabetes, vascular problems, chronic
infections or traumas.
Dr. Lattarulo was one of the original
physicians responsible for opening the Wound Healing Institute at
Phelps Memorial Hospital Center. He has
undergone specialized training in wound healing to offer state
of the art techniques to provide wound healing.
The Institute staff also utilizes the newest
techniques in wound care and communicates with your primary care
physician regarding the care of your wound. The Wound Healing
Institute Program provides patients and their families a new
choice for wounds that won't heal. Even patients that have been
through lengthy therapies elsewhere can be successfully treated
by Dr. Lattarulo at the Institute.
The
Department of Hyperbaric Medicine at Phelps recently
opened its doors to provide Hyperbaric Oxygen
Therapy (HBOT), a medical treatment during which
patients breathe pure oxygen while sitting inside a
pressurized chamber. Seating 12 people, the
hyperbaric chamber at Phelps is the largest in the
northeastern United States
The term “hyperbaric chamber”
may bring to mind scuba divers suffering from “The
Bends” (Decompression Sickness), but that is just
one condition that can be treated with Hyperbaric
Oxygen. Medical conditions treated with Hyperbaric
Oxygen include carbon monoxide poisoning; cyanide
poisoning, bone infections (chronic osteomyelitis),
air embolism, compromised tissue flaps and skin
grafts.
Those undergoing Hyperbaric treatments receive 100% oxygen in a
pressurized environment. The chamber is capable of
compression to six time’s normal atmospheric
pressure. In combination with standard treatment
protocols, Hyperbaric Oxygen contributes to optimal
healing for patients.
